Where Can You Bet On Sports?
As of October 2019, all states mentioned below have passed legislation where it allows sports betting either in casinos or online. You are not required to be a resident of the state discussed as long as you are physically present in that state, then you can bet on sports.
Both mobile sports betting and retail are now live in the state of New Jersey, Rhode Island, District of Columbia, Illinois, Iowa, West Virginia, and Indiana. In Pennsylvania, both retail and mobile sports wagering is approved by the state.
In the state of New Hampshire, Tennessee, and Colorado, mobile sports betting is now live. In New York, all retail sports betting is live, but all betting must take place in person with the possibility that mobile wagering is considered on a later date.
In the state of Mississippi, Arkansas, and Delaware, all retail sports betting is allowed while mobile sports betting is considered, but they did not pass a bill in 2019. In Montana and Oregon, sports betting is exclusively allowed through a state lottery. In Nevada, you can bet at land-based sportsbooks.
Placing A Bet
Even though there’s a limited number of states which legalized sports betting, it is not always easy to place a bet. In some states where they allowed sportsbooks, there’s not much platform to place your bets. And in some places, they vary in enabling one or more sportsbook operators.
The majority number of states have placed a small number of restrictions on sportsbook operations. It includes that sports bets can be online or in physical retail locations. And it varies depending on how much will be the cost of that licensing fees for that particular sportsbook operator.
In other states like Arkansas and Mississippi, sports betting can only operate at retail locations. It means that there is limited betting in these states.
Overall, there are plenty of states to place your sports bet. As mentioned above, you do not need to be a certified resident of each state. You can set your bet when you are physically located in that state.
